
Screen Engine/ASI is seeking a mid-career market Research Director with a passion for movies to join their strategic consultation team. The ideal candidate will be familiar with a wide range of market research techniques (both quantitative and qualitative), with the academic training and research experience to write insightful and actionable entertainment industry strategic marketing reports.
As a Research Director, you will work closely with Senior Leaders within the Movie Group to serve as the day-to-day manager on a variety of research projects including, but not limited to concept tests, ad/creative tests, positioning studies, custom research, and focus groups. You will collaborate with fellow client service team members, operations team members, third-party vendors, and clients daily to execute research studies from design through report delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary lead for project analysis and reporting, centered on the creation and execution of client-ready narratives with clear strategic direction based on a close reading of both primary and secondary data sets. The Director will oversee and execute research tasks across the project lifecycle, including but not limited to the following: design and verification of questionnaires, data processing specs, and data tables; preparing reports including design, execution, and verification in Excel and PowerPoint; compile and analyze lists of historical comp sets; create and validate code frames; author summaries of scripts, films or other entertainment content.
The Director will have the flexibility to work from a home office on most workdays but will need to attend research screenings and client meetings around the greater Los Angeles area as well as attend events and work sessions at the company’s offices in Valley Village, CA at least once per month.
This role is currently designated as Hybrid based on our current workplace policies. However, the work arrangement may be subject to change based on company decisions, and a return to in-office work may be required in the future.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the film industry and/or experience writing about market-focused entertainment topics from either a journalistic or academic perspective is a plus.
- Five to nine years of relevant work experience (market research/consumer insights) is required.
- Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to effectively tell a research story that delivers on defined research objectives.
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a larger analytical team to deliver polished reports on tight timelines.
- Possess experience presenting research findings.
- Knowledgeable about marketing concepts like positioning, ad testing, and brand health
- Experience with market research methodologies and techniques (i.e., monadic testing, segmentation, conjoint).
- Comfortable working with both large quantitative data sets and qualitative results.
- Fully proficient in PowerPoint (including design skills), Excel, and Word.
- Able to travel to research events around the greater Los Angeles region.
- The job may include up to 20% travel to other parts of the U.S.
- The job will require flexible availability, including frequent work on evenings and weekends.
- BA/BS with a strong academic record and analytical background.
Yearly Salary: $96,000 – $120,000
