In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th, Screen Engine/ASI is hosting an online panel discussion honoring the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities.

This special event will feature four distinguished panelists from diverse industries, each with unique Hispanic heritage. They will share their personal and professional journeys in the U.S., offering insights into their challenges, triumphs, and the cultural richness that shapes their experiences.

PANELISTS:

Dora Nunez – Executive Advisor, Strategic Initiatives at Los Angeles County Internal Services Department

Dora is a seasoned marketer and public affairs executive with a passion for empowering communities. With over 20 years of experience, she’s led initiatives in corporate, public, and non-profit sectors. She has worked with top executives on strategic planning, operations, and communications. She’s dedicated to advocating for diverse communities and has a proven track record of success in both local and national initiatives.

Dora has been recognized for her work in communications, community outreach, and leadership. She’s also an author, having published a children’s book.

Dora Nunez is a Chicago native with roots in Guatemala. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s University and a bachelor’s in political science from California State University, Los Angeles.

Karem Fernandez – Senior Technical Program Manager – AI/ML at Microsoft Software

Karem has strived throughout her career to provide users and customers the best product experiences. Currently as Senior Technical Program Manager at Microsoft, she connects Product leaders and Product managers with customers to create the best AI products in the market. Karem has 25 years of experience in Technology starting her career as a Software Engineer. Before joining Microsoft in 2022, she worked 15 years at Nielsen where she held various roles going from Software development to Technical Business Analysis to Project Management and then transitioning into Product Management. Prior to that, she held Software Engineering roles at companies in the Finance and Telecommunications industries. She is a champion of D&I serving as a lead of Hispanic Employee Resource Groups for several years. She has led multiple projects that benefited the underserved and the Hispanic/LatinX communities with a special interest in children’s education. Karem is originally from Venezuela where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in SystemsEngineering. She moved to the United States to pursue graduate school and holds a Master of Science in Computer Science degree from the University of South Florida.

Dr. Natalie Hart – Inaugural Equity Strategic Advisor – Washington State Senate

Dr. Hart is a trailblazer in education and policy. She identifies herself as an Afro-Latina. She graduated from the University of Washington with a triple major and two minors, breaking barriers as the first in her family to earn a college degree, master’s, and doctorate.

Her career began as an Admissions Advisor and Recruiter at her alma mater. She then earned a master’s in Learning and Policy Studies and served as a College and Career Counselor at Stadium High School in Tacoma. Dr. Hart continued her academic journey at USC, earning a Doctorate in Education while taking on multiple roles, including Learning Specialist for USC Athletics and leading educational trips to Spain.

A dedicated member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, for over 17 years, Dr. Hart has held various leadership positions and secured nearly $200,000 in scholarships. She is also an avid traveler, having explored 10 countries.

Dr. Hart’s expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion led her to a role as a DEI consultant and Instructional Designer at a tech company. She recently secured a groundbreaking role in policy development for the state of Washington, a position that is the first of its kind and will undoubtedly have a lasting impact.

Carlos Williams – CEO at DBC

Carlos is the Prime Minister (CEO) of DBC, a Black-owned and women-led creative agency with a global footprint. As a first-generation Afro-Latino with Panamanian roots, Carlos has built a career at the intersection of creativity, diversity, and strategic brand leadership. Under his guidance, DBC has become a sought-after agency, partnering with brands like Spotify, Meta, and Bank of America, delivering innovative and inclusive solutions.

As a remote-first leader, Carlos splits his time between the U.S. and Colombia, where DBC is actively growing its workforce. His journey reflects not only entrepreneurial success but also a deep commitment to fostering equity and inclusion in every project DBC undertakes. His career is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of first-generation professionals navigating complex industries and global markets. Carlos’s story highlights his pride in his Afro-Latino identity and his drive to create spaces where diverse voices can thrive, making him a powerful speaker on topics of leadership, diversity, and the future of work.
